El Gironès
Naturally enough, the centre-piece in this interweave of variations and contrasts is the city of Girona and its surrounding area. This small and harmonious city can look back on over a thousand years of history, from which it has managed to maintain respectfully the legacy of all the periods and sensitivities that have left their mark on it. We have an old quarter proud of each of the stones that dress its medieval façades, in which the Jews lived alongside the city‘s other inhabitants in an example of a Jewish community unique in world terms; then there is the cathedral, an outstanding example of Gothic architecture, and its museum, with the Tapestry of the Creation and the Beatus; the defensive wall that encloses the old quarter, and the Cinema Museum, the only one in Europe.
