El Ripollès
A profound and mysterious region that is home to a large number of Romanesque monuments and that has the virtue of having been a repository of the spiritual soul of Catalonia at the monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll. It is also exciting to visit the valley and the sanctuary of Núria, located at the foot of ski slopes of the same name; there is a rack railway that winds its way up between narrow passes and steep-sided mountains, permitting a spectacular view of the Ribes valley. And nestling in the folds of the more easily approachable Camprodon valley are unique examples of small mountain villages, as well as the characteristic cuisine that is a feature of this entire region.
